The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) 2012 will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 13-18. More than 1500 outstanding high school students from 65 countries are expected to present their research projects at this event. Intel ISEF is the world's largest international pre-college science competition.
To become eligible to participate in Intel ISEF, millions of students worldwide compete each year in local and school-sponsored science fairs. The winners of these events participate in Intel ISEF-affiliated regional and state science fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend the Intel ISEF. Those selected to participate in the prestigious Intel ISEF are called Intel Finalists.
The first day of the program feature an opening ceremony during with the participants get to meet each other and exchange their national or state pins. During the hectic one week program all the project displays are judged and over $4 million in prizes and scholarships are distributed. The top Best in Category winner will get The Gordon E. Moore Award and $75,000. The Intel finalists are judged on their creative ability and scientific thought, as well as the thoroughness, skill, and clarity shown in their projects.
