Biomedical research in American Universities is mainly supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). A petition on White House website, We the The People, is being promoted by people interested in increasing the NIH budget for the next fiscal year (2013).  The petition requires 25,000 votes by April 17 to get the notice of the White House.

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) 2012 will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, May 13-18.  More than 1500 outstanding high school students from 65 countries are expected to present their research projects at this event. Intel ISEF is the world's largest international pre-college science competition.

One may expect that people singing in a choir would synchronize their breathing, but would they also synchronize their heartbeats? In a study recently published in PLoS ONE, researchers from the Center for Lifespan Psychology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin have looked at both. Using electrocardiographic and respiratory movement recordings, the authors investigated oscillatory couplings among eleven singers and one conductor engaged in choir singing.
